Imaging Workshop - Photography
For our first workshop of the year we were challenged to take photographs which captured a certain element. We had to think about shape, form, tone, lighting and composition and embed meaning and a message into each image. We also had to think about what the photo signified, what does it stand for.
We were told to take three different photographs which all that to represent something different. All the photographs are unedited.
A Found Object.
I wanted each photograph to connect and work together but all have different meanings. We decided to focus our photos around a camera. It's a found object. Although rather than just taking a standard photography of the camera as a still life we decided to play around with shadows and lighting.
We began to notice that the shadows created by the camera and lens looked slightly like an eye. We explored this further trying to create shadows against a white background. Holding the light at different angels to show less or more definition.
Out of all the photos we took this is my favourite. It looks slightly like the camera lens is projecting the shadows onto the wall.
Centring around the idea of eyes we decided to take photographs of my own eye as something physical. Again we wanted to play around with the lighting to create emotion and depth. We wanted the eye to dominate the photograph and really pull you in. Using lighting we created shadow on half of my eye. This is the end result. I think the picture not only is physical but shows a lot of emotion and could be part of a narrative.
On Wednesday the 22nd we had a Screen Printing workshop. I've never done Screen Printing before so I was really looking forward to it. Although there was a lot of information to take in at once I really enjoyed the workshop and learnt a lot. I would really like to use Screen Printing as an outcome for one of my future projects or during Directed study. Some of the work on display was really inspirational.

Physical.
Emotion.
I feel like we captured emotion really well within the last photo. Again we wanted to focus of the idea of an eye. Your eyes show your emotions more than any of part of your body so we thought it was quite fitting. Although we didn't want to take more pictures of a physical eye, we wanted to use the camera. The cameras lens is almost like its eye. Every time it takes a photo it captures many memories and emotions. We wanted to photograph the eye of the camera. This was the end result.

Screen Printing Workshop
I really like these two pieces (done by students) I think the Screen Print works really well on transparent paper. Overlapping to create a narrative.
It made me think back to one of my original ideas for the Passing Time Brief. To use Transparent paper to build up a image and create a story. If I was to develop that further I think Screen Printing would work really well.
In the workshop we played around with basic animation, rotation, movement, scale. By importing a file from Photoshop we then placed it with After Effects and made it animate. I really enjoyed the workshop and would really like to do something with this in the future.
I also made a few notes to refer back to;
Setting: HDTV 1080 25
Square Pixel
Frame Rate 25
Duration 05
Size 1920px by 1080px
Preference save all in AE Cache
Save as H264, File, Export, Render Queue.
Unfortunately I was ill when the workshop took place so I had to catch up. I decided to use a different picture from the ones I chose for the previous workshop. I overlayed the same image on top of each other to add definition. I then added gray lines across the image and wrote 'Limited Space' on the one closest to my eye. Finally I overlayed another image of my eye but reversed it to confuse the picture.
In the end we decided to use paintings of people who had long passed and write unfortunate events over top of them. I think our outcome is quite funny and each would make quite a good poster or even a greetings card.

After Effects Workshop
Today we had a After Effects Induction. I have never used After Effects before so did find the workshop quite challenging but very insightful. In the workshop we played around with basic animation, rotation, movement, scale. Limited Space Poster
Carrying on from our Limited Space Photography workshop we were asked to create a poster from the photos we took.Unfortunately I was ill when the workshop took place so I had to catch up. Book workshop
Today we had a small design company come in to do a workshop with us. We had to create a book around the idea of enjoying other peoples misery. We were put into groups for this. I found working in a group quite difficult since we had to think of an idea quite quickly and no one would agree. In the end we decided to use paintings of people who had long passed and write unfortunate events over top of them. I think our outcome is quite funny and each would make quite a good poster or even a greetings card.
